Women are particularly affected by homelessness, as they are often less likely to be seen on the streets and are more likely to seek alternative sleeping arrangements with friends and acquaintances, usually in very stressful and dependent situations. Around 41% of all homeless people are women. They sleep with acquaintances, in emergency shelters or remain in violent relationships because there are no safe alternatives. Traditional help structures often fall short.
